Sullen is part of a focused series where I’ve been exploring light, form, and structure in portrait painting.

This particular piece was all about value—how light falls, how it wraps, and how subtle shifts in shadow can change the entire presence of a face. It’s not meant to be polished or final. It’s a study. But it holds the kind of tension that happens when you stop trying to perfect something and just observe.

Painted in oil on a 9"x12" panel, it’s unframed and ready to be displayed as-is, or added to a larger collection of in-process works and figure studies. Available now as a one-off original.

what collectors are saying
“There’s something haunting about the expression, like it knows the pain you carry. This isn’t just art—it’s a mirror of emotion. I’ve placed it by my writing desk, and every glance reminds me to sit with my own quiet truths.”
— Jules R., Toronto
